Just before Vršič pass in Kranjska Gora lies Jasna lake. There are walking paths around the lake, which has very clear, green, very cold water. At the lake shore stands a statue of the legendary Zlatorog, a perfect photo opportunity for your album.

3. Vršič – Russian Chapel

Vršič is the highest mountain pass in eastern Julian Alps. The road over the pass was built by Russian prisoners of war during the WWI. Today there is a Russian Chapel built in memory of those prisoners of war and all casualties of WWI. The Chapel is a reminder of the nonsense of world wars.

4. Trenta and the source of Soča

Trenta is a glacial valley in Triglav National Park and is the highest part of Soča valley. The source of Soča is one of the most beautiful karst sources in our mountains. To see the source of Soča we will take a 15 minute walk from the Cottage at the source of Soča. The trail is maintained and partly secured with pitons and steel cables.

5. Bovec

A nice destination in the valley of the emerald river Soča, partly in the heart of the Triglav National Park amidst the summits of Julian Alps is a true holiday paradise. You can relax, have an active vacation and learn about soška fronta (Isonzo front). Bovec is being discovered by numerous film makers and Disney’s Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was partially shot there.

6. Boka waterfall

Boka is a karst water source, a waterfall and a swift mountain stream, a tributary of Soča. Boka waterfall is 106 meter high and 18 meters wide and is the most magnificent waterfall in Slovenija and in Europe. If you add the 33 meter high cascade under it, this is probably the highest waterfall in Slovenia (139 meters).

7. Rafting (Optional)

The most famous Soča descent starts near the beautiful 106 meter high Boka Falls in the vicinity of Žaga village. On the first part of the 10 km long descent, which is not all that demanding, we will prepare for the range of rapids we will encounter in the second, more demanding part. The descent ends at the bridge in Trnovo.

8. Kobarid

Napoleon’s Bridge is a graduated stone bridge over the narrow canyon of Nadiža river, built around 1812 and is a testimony to importance of this transit area from the Roman times onward. The ancient trail from Pradola and Robidišče towards Nadiža runs over the bridge.
Kozjak waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Slovenia. The waterfall carved a dark chamber but the ceiling has caved in and the chamber is now a pool of blue-green water.

9. Most na Soči

Stands at confluence of rivers Soča and Idrijca. When they built the dam on Soča river for the hydro power plant, a reservoir formed here. The beautiful pristine nature, clear lake water and numerous water fowl are incentive enough to visit the Most na Soči lake.

10. Auto Train

The famed railway track built in 1906 connects Most na Soči and Bohinjska Bistrica. With its quaintness, viaducts and the longest railway tunnel in Slovenija (6327 meters) it will enchant everybody.

11. Bohinj Lake

Bohinj Lake with its 3,19 km2 is the largest permanent natural lake in Slovenija. It lies in Julian Alps at 526 meters above sea level between Pršivec to the North and Vogel to the South. This is one of the most beautiful lakes in Slovenija and a true paradise for trekking, skydiving, bathing, adrenaline parks and many other activities.

We will start at 8.00 a.m. in Bled/Ljubljana or any other arranged location We will drive past Jesenice and arrive to Kranjska Gora at 9.30 a.m. We will take a walk around the beautiful alpine lake Jasna. We can stop for coffee in the nearby coffee shop if you wish. We will continue to Russian Chapel under the Vršič Pass, where we will arrive at 10.30 a.m. We will take a tour of the chapel and then continue our journey to Trenta were we will arrive at 11.20 a.m. We will take a walk to the source of Soča and after that we will continue down to Bovec where we will arrive and stop here for lunch at 12.15 a.m. At 1.30 p.m. we will start out to Boka waterfall to see this watery beauty. We will continue to Trnovo ob Soči and arrive there at 2.00 p.m. You can try optional rafting there or take a walk by Soča river. After rafting we will continue towards Kobarid, where we will arrive at 4.00 p.m. We will take a tour of Napoleon’s bridge and take a walk to Kozjak waterfall. After sightseeing we will drive through Tolmin to Most na Soči and arrive at 5.40 p.m. There will be a short stop at the lake. At 6.20 p.m. we will board the Auto Train and ride one of the most demanding railways in this part of Europe to Bohinjska Bistrica and towards lake Bohinj followed by a short stop for photographing. After the tour ends we continue our path to starting location and arrive there at around 8.30 p.m.

2. Mojstrana

Mojstrana is a typical Alpine village at the entrance to the Triglav National Park. Three wonderful Alpine valleys – Vrata, Kot and Krma run from there to the heart of Julian Alps and to the base of the highest Slovenian mountain Triglav (2864 meters). Vrata Valley runs from Mojstrana to the base of the northern face of Triglav and is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Julian Alps.

3. Peričnik fall

Is one of the most beautiful and renowned falls in Slovenia. It is in the Triglav National Park. It is comprised of 52 meter lower fall and 16 meter upper fall. It is a protected natural monument.

4. Radovna valley

Is situated in the Triglav National Park. It got its name from some 20 kilometers long charming glacier alpine river Radovna which rises in the Zgornja Radovna and during its course to its outfall into Sava Dolinka descends 250 meters.

5. Vintgar gorge

One of the greatest, most beautiful and most renowned natural monuments around Bled is 1,6 kilometers long Vintgar gorge. The wonderful green Radovna river with its pools, falls and rapids runs through it. It is 250 meter deep. The trail traverses wooden bridges. At the end of the Vintgar gorge there is a 13-meter fall

6. Pokljuka

Is a high wooded karst plateau in Julian Alps. It is the largest wooded area in Triglav National Park. The hidden chasms, overgrown potholes, sinkholes and valleys are the result of sometime Pokljuka glacier. On Pokljuka we will eat at one of the tourist farms.

Zajamniki mountain pasture is located at the western edge of Pokljuka and offers some spectacular views. Because of this it is known as the Pokljuka balcony. In the clear weather you can see Triglav behind the mighty Tošč and the line of summits of Mišelj vrh, Debeli vrh and other on the horizon. At the right hand side there are Veliki Draški vrh known for its difficult climbing routes, and Ablanca. To the south and southeast the view opens over the Bohinj Lake and Vogel to the mountains silhouetted in the distance. The mountain pasture itself is renowned for its shepherd’s cottages standing on a virtual street. The mountain pasture is protected as a monument and is a true jewel of the mountains.

7. Mrcina Ranch (optional horse riding)

Mrcina Ranch is in Triglav National Park in the Studor village in Bohinj. They have 14 horses – 11 of them Icelandic horses), a bunch of cats, a dog Kan and a piggy Boška. They offer horse riding for beginners and experienced riders. The youngest riders can use saddles with handles and we take them around manege or on a short walk in the nature under the supervision of our guide.

After the tour at 1:00 a.m. we will continue to Pokljuka, take a tour of this beautiful karst plateau and enjoy a plate of local culinary delights at one of the traditional farms. At 3:30 p.m. we will continue towards Bohinj. In Studor village there is an optional horse riding at Mrcina Ranch. 2. Lipica

The Lipica stud is one of the most beautiful cultural and historical monuments in Slovenia and is a home to nearly 400 Lipizzaners. With more than four centuries of tradition in this Karst landscape it is the oldest stud with unbroken horse breeding in the world.

3. Škocjanske jame

Škocjanske jame are still the only place in Slovenia and in the classical Karst on the list of Unesco World Heritage Sites and therefore have a special honorary place
among natural monuments of the world.

4. Brkini

Brkini are a hilly flysch island in the surrounding karst landscape. They border on Karst, the valley of river Reka and Matarsko valleys. They are 700 to 800 meters high, 25 km long, about 7 km wide and cover about 180 km2. There is some flysch terrain north and east of them. The hills are comprised of soft marl and sandstone with fertile soil good for orchards and vineyards.

5. Slope – Pri Damjanu

The tourist farm Pri Damjanu is in the Slope village in the foothills of the westernmost slopes of Brkini. Here you will find homeliness, typical farm features, animals, kindness and of course the home cooked food.
At the tourist farm Pri Damjanu they will pamper us with tasting of typical local dishes of Karst-Brkini area. The farm offers stunning cured meats, mineštre (broth) and jota (broth), dishes from goat cheese and cottage cheese such as cheese pastry and strudel, seasonal wild asparagus and ceps, homemade fruit juice and excellent wine. Lunch is included in the price of the day trip.

At 11.30 a. m. we will continue our journey towards Škocjanske jame and arrive there at 11.45 a. m. We will tour the caves and afterwards take a short break. At 2.30 p. m. we will continue to the culinary house Kmetija pri Damjanu and enjoy lunch there.Depending on the starting location we will continue towards Koper at 4:40 p.m. or Ljubljana at 4.30 p. m. .If we start towards Koper we will arrive there at 5:15 p.m. There we will tour the town and then have some free time for bathing and discovering the town for ourselves. 2. Postojnska cave

Postojna cave is a jewel of Slovenian Karst being the most renowned cave and one of the greatest karst monuments in the world. The temperature in the cave is constant and regardless of the season, it is always around 10° C. You should dress accordingly but you can rent a warm cloak at the entrance to the Postojna cave.

3. Predjama castle

This castle is a special sensation. It is built high into the cliff 10 kilometers from Postojna cave and is a romantic sight throughout the year. It has only one access route but according to legend there is a secret tunnel leading out. Historical robber baron Erazem was besieged by the imperial army and held out for a year and a day because he was smuggling food and drinks through this secret tunnel. The castle only fell due to an enemy trick and betrayal.

4. Štanjel

Štanjel is a quaint karst settlement on terraces of the 363 meters high Turn hill. It has narrow streets between stone houses. Its skyline is dominated by the characteristic bell tower of St. Daniel Church and a castle in the renaissance and baroque style.

5. Karst

Karst is a landscape formed from the dissolution of soluble limestone. It is characterized by surface formations, caves and underground drainage systems. The name derives from an old folk term for stone and its original meaning was stone landscape. This gave the name Kras to the area between Trieste Bay, Vipava Valley, Soča Valley and Brkini Hills. Geological phenomena in this area is so common that Europe accepted the term “karst phenomena” and later just “karst” for all later discovered similar areas. When they found similar phenomenas around the world they described them as the karst of that area and in the past century the name was accepted as technical term. But the Slovenian term kras was not accepted as international scientific term because other researchers have used the translation of the term in their own language, especially Italians (carso) and Germans (Karst) who’s scientific work draw attention from around the world.

Komen is an urbanized village near crossroads of roads to Nova Gorica, Vipava and Sežana. Because of its favourable geographic position, Komen has evolved in the central village of Komen Karst. It is situated on a low plateau surrounded by Kočnik (500 meters), Lipnik (536 meters) and Sv. Martin (475 meters). The village boasts an 18th century baroque church with a free standing bell tower with the date 1733 carved into the portal.

Pliskovica

This village has a rather unusual but still pleasant name. Pliska is a local name for the White Wagtail (Motacilla alba) which lives in and around the village. It is said that because of its boisterous character the shepherds who are said to be the first settlers here used the term pliska for boisterous goats and sheep. So the village got its name from birds and sheep. This is one of the bigger villages in the heart of the vast karst plateau only 10 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea. It has some 100 houses and a population of 220. It is surrounded by vast vineyards and the first class Teran wine is made here.

Dutovlje is situated in the centre of most fertile part of karst plateau. All the flatland around the village is covered in jerovica (terra rossa).

6. Ljubljana or Koper

Then we will continue to the Predjama Castle and take a tour of it at 11:30 a.m. We will travel to the heart of Karst by way of Stanjel. We will stop at one of the tourist farms there and visit a production of prosciutto and a wine cellar and try typical karst cuisine. Budnar’s house is a unique living museum of life of our ancestors. With its several hundred years old image, it preserves the heritage of old farmhouses and a simpler village life. Black kitchen with an open hearth which is still in use, a main room or “hiša” with a maple tree table and a “God’s corner”, a big bench, a “štampet” and a “mentrga” are just some of the features of this homestead.

4. Velika planina

Herdsmen settlement on Velika planina is considered one of the few preserved settlements of this size in Europe and attracts numerous visitors all year around. It has typical architecture which is a symbol of Velika planina. Cottages have a typical low roof covered with spruce shingles. In Kamnik area the shepherd’ cottage is known as “pastirska bajta” or “pastirski stan”, and the spruce shingles are locally known as “šinkel”. The settlement comes to life in June, when shepherd’s come here with their cattle and stay till September. They will be happy to invite you to taste their homemade dairy dishes or offer you a proper shepherd’s lunch – sour milk and hard-boiled corn mush.

5. Kamniška Bistrica

Kamniška Bistrica is a glacial valley running from Stahovica to the north of Kamnik and a mountain cottage Dom v Kamniški Bistrici where the Kamniška Bistrica river has its source. This cottage is also a starting point of many mountain trails into Kamnik Alps.

According to an old folk tale, Vransko got its name from the bird vrana (crow). It is said there was a lake in the Vransko basin which was dug out and drained to build the settlement. There were flocks of crows converging on the lake and later marshes, so the settlement was named after them.

3. Upper Savinja Valley

Multipurpose centre for sustainable development of Solčava region includes a visitor’s information point, multipurpose auditorium for multimedia presentations and a circular permanent exhibition about life and nature in Solčava region SOLČAVA REGION – A WALK INTO THE ARMS OF ALPS. It takes you from a prehistoric dwelling to a house, to a yard with timber and sheep, to the forest, to a creek, to a mountain meadow, to the rocks and into the mountains. On the ground floor there is a shop with products from Solčava and the surrounding region.

6. Logarska valley

This is one of the most beautiful Alpine glacial valleys in Europe and cuts from the north into Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The Logarska dolina Landscape Park is rich with different natural formations. The geological base, effects of glacier and other factors have created some wonderful images. And Logarska valley is the most beautiful of them. It is renowned for many waterfalls and many alpine flowers, some of them pretty rare or even endagered.

7. The Rinka waterfall

The Rinka waterfall is one of the highest vertical waterfalls in Slovenia. It collects water from Okrešelj and then runs over smaller rocky steps and rapids to the tectonic-glacial cliff where it plunges 90 meters deep into the pool under The Eagle Nest. Not far from there it disappears into the gravel deposit under Okrešelj. Because of its magnificence and height it was declared a natural monument in 1987.

8. Panoramic road

The renowned Solčava panoramic road connects large mountain farms in Matkov kot with farms in the hamlet of Podolševa. There are some spectacular views of the valleys and peaks of Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

9. Luče

Is a center of Community of Luče. It is situated in the deep and slightly widened valley of Savinja at the confluence with Lučnica which runs from the smaller valley of Podvolovljek. The village is interesting for tourists with some tourist farms, cultural and natural sites in the vicinity.

At 2.30 p.m. we will continue to Logarska dolina where we will make few stops to enjoy the beauty of the valley and some free time. We will conclude this part with an ascent to the Rinka waterfall (about 15 minutes of an undemanding walk). At 5.00 p.m. we will drive on the high mountain road and taste some mineral water. At 6.00 p.m. we will be back at Solčava and continue to Kamnik. At 6.45 p.m. we will be at Kamnik and take a drive through it for a quick look. This is where we had back to starting location and we arrive there at 8.00 p.m.

2. Most na Soči

Most na Soči stands at the confluence of rivers Soča and Idrijca, which in the past were good protection with their deep rocky beds. When they built the dam on Soča river for the hydro power plant a reservoir formed here. The beautiful pristine nature, clear lake water and numerous water fowl are incentive enough to visit the Most na Soči lake. In the vicinity of the town stands a railway bridge which Italian artillery batteries destroyed during the first battle of Isonzo (Soča).

3. Tolmin – Javorca and Kolovrat

The church of the Holy Spirit or Javorca was built between March 1st and November 1st 1916 during fighting on Isonzo front. It was designed by Viennese architect Remigius Geyling, a first lieutenant at the time. The construction by soldiers of the Third Alpine Brigade of Austro-Hungarian army was directed by Hungarian Geza Jablonsky. The church is mainly wooden: the altar, ceiling, supporting columns and walls with names of fallen soldiers (reputedly around 2500 of them) burned in. At the entrance there is a sign ULTRA CINERES HOSTIUM IRA NON SUPEREST which means “The hate should not reach beyond the ashes”.- The Kolovrat ridge is a transitory area between Upper Soča valley on the Slovenian side of the border and Veneto Region in Italy. The outdoor museum is located on the Kolovrat ridge commanding exceptional views. During WWI the Italian army built a vast system of its third defence line known as “linea d’ armata”. Part of it is an outdoor museum now under the management of Walk of Peace in the Soča Region Foundation.

4. Kobarid – Museum and ossuary

The Kobarid Museum evolved from an exhibition put up by locals in 1990. It operated within the Tourist Society of Kobarid. After five years the Ministry of culture gave the founders permission to transfer the management to a non-profit organization which manages it today. In 2011 Kobarid Museum was entered on the list od Slovenian museum. It was awarded the highest Slovenian prize for museums – The Valvasor award. It was nominated for the EMYA and awarded the prize of European Council. Among its visitors were monarchs, chairmen of European Parliament, presidents of states and governments, ministers, chairmen of many world associations and churches and Nobel Prize winners. Italian ossuary above Kobarid is a memorial to Italian soldiers killed in the WWI and stands at the church of St. Anthony in Kobarid. The ossuary was designed by architect Giovanni Greppi and the sculptures were made by the sculptor Giannino Castiglioni. They both designed the ossuary in Sredipolje (Redipuglia) as well. The ossuary was built near the church of St. Anthony on the Gradič above Kobarid in 1938 as a memorial to Italian soldiers killed in WWI around Kobarid, Bovec, Tolmin and Rombon.

5. Boka waterfall

Boka is a karst water source, a waterfall and a swift mountain stream, a tributary of Soča. Boka waterfall is 106 meter high and 18 meters wide and is the most magnificent waterfall in Slovenija and in Europe. If you add the 33 meter high cascade under it this is probably the highest waterfall in Slovenia (139 meters).

6. Bovec – Ravelnik

Near Bovec right on the road on the Ravelnik Hill is an outdoor museum of WWI. A circular trail leads around the first defence line of Austro-Hungarian army. You can see trenches, caverns, bunkers, pillboxes and restored barracks.

7. Trenta

Trenta is a glacial valley in Triglav National Park and is the highest part of Soča valley. The source of Soča is one of the most beautiful karst sources in our mountains. To see the source of Soča we will take a 15 minute walk from the Cottage at the source of Soča. The trail is maintained and partly secured with pitons and steel cables.

8. Vršič and Ruska kapelica

Vršič is the highest road pass in eastern Julian Alps. The road over the pass was built by Russian prisoners of war during the WWI. Today there is a Russian Chapel built in memory of those prisoners of war and all casualties of WWI. The Chapel is a reminder of the nonsense of world wars.

If you wish, you can enjoy some coffee in the nearby coffee shop. We will continue to Tolmin and Javorca, where we will arrive at 10.30 a.m. We will take the tour of the church and continue afterwards to Kolovrat ridge where we will arrive at 11.30 a.m. We will take a tour of the outdoor museum and explore the Italian trenches from the WWI. We will come near the border stone between Slovenija and Italy. As the tour of the outdoor museum is taken on foot we recommend appropriate footwear and clothing. After the tour we will continue to the Idrsko village and further to Kobarid. At 1.00 p.m. we will take a guided tour of Kobarid museum where we will learn a lot about Isonzo front. At 2.00 p.m. we will take a tour of the Italian ossuary above the Kobarid. At 2.40 p.m. we will have an hour for lunch. At 3.40 p.m. we will meet at the van and continue our journey to Bovec. After a 15-minute drive we will arrive at Boka waterfall to take a look at it before continuing to Bovec where we will make a short stop. At 4.15 p.m. we will go to the outdoor museum at Ravelnik and take a walk among the trenches and bunkers. At 5.00 p.m. we will continue to Trenta and Vršič pass where we will arrive at 5.45 p.m. We will take a tour of the Russian chapel and then continue to Kranjska Gora and the highway. We will finish our trip at starting location at about 8.00 p.m.
