Tour Details

Join us on the Emerald River Tour, a full‑day alpine adventure made truly unique by a scenic train ride through the heart of the Julian Alps. This unforgettable railway journey takes you deep into the mountains, across bridges and through valleys that can only be seen from the historic Bohinj railway line — a highlight that sets our tour apart from all others.

Along the way, we visit some of Slovenia’s most iconic natural wonders, including crystal‑clear lakes (Jasna, Bohinj), powerful waterfalls (Kozjak, Boka), and of course the legendary Soča River, famous for its unreal emerald colour.

You’ll travel in a comfortable minivan (max 8 guests) with a knowledgeable guide, stopping every few kilometres for short hikes to waterfalls, viewpoints, and hidden gems. For those seeking extra excitement, you can upgrade your day with adrenaline activities such as rafting on the Soča River, ziplining in Bovec, or even skydiving — while the rest of the group visits a beautiful nearby waterfall.

The Emerald River Tour blends nature, adventure, culture, and the magic of the alpine railway into one seamless experience you won’t find anywhere else.

Itinerary

StartBled

Emerald River Tour begins at 7:15 a.m.

Stop 1Bohinj Lake

Bohinj Lake with its 3,19 km2 is the largest permanent natural lake in Slovenia. It lies in Julian Alps at 526 meters above sea level between Pršivec to the North and Vogel to the South. This is one of the most beautiful lakes in Triglav National Park and also the last guided stop on Emerald River Tour.

Stop 2Auto Train

The famed railway line built in 1906 connects Most na Soči and Bohinjska Bistrica, and it remains one of the most scenic and historically significant routes in the Alps. As the train winds its way through untouched valleys, stone‑arched viaducts, and dramatic gorges, you’ll experience views that simply cannot be seen from the road. The highlight is Slovenia’s longest railway tunnel — an impressive 6,327 meters — a true engineering marvel of its time. With its vintage charm, alpine landscapes, and a rhythm that feels like stepping back in time, this train ride enchants every traveler and sets the tone for an unforgettable day.

Stop 3Most na Soči

Stands at confluence of rivers Soča and Idrijca. When they built the dam on Soča river for the hydro power plant, a reservoir formed here. The beautiful pristine nature, clear lake water and numerous water fowl are incentive enough to visit the Most na Soči lake.

Stop 4Kobarid - Kozjak waterfall (optional)

Levi and Desni Breg are the two banks of the Soča River near Kobarid, where the gorge is the narrowest, and a bridge has connected them since ancient times.
In 1616, the Venetians destroyed the wooden bridge. The old Napoleon Bridge, a single-arch stone bridge, was built in 1750. It was named after Napoleon’s troops marched across it towards Predel.
During World War I, Austrian soldiers blew up the bridge. Later, the Italians built a wooden bridge, followed by an iron bridge.
During World War II, partisans defended the Republic of Kobarid here, and two memorial plaques were erected near the bridge to commemorate these events.

Kozjak waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Triglav National Park. The waterfall carved a dark chamber but the ceiling has caved in and the chamber is now a pool of blue-green water.

Stop 5 Optional activities (Zipline in Bovec or Skydiving) or Virje waterfall

On this trip you can decide to do some optional activities. Zipline in Bovec (the biggest Zipline park in this part of Europe) or if you dare jump from 4000m go for Skydiving. You can also decide to do nothing and spend that time visiting one extra waterfall nearby with our guide.

Stop 6Boka waterfall

Boka is a karst water source, a waterfall and a swift mountain stream, a tributary of Soča river. Boka waterfall is 106 meter high and 18 meters wide and is the most magnificent waterfall in Slovenija and in Europe. If you add the 33 meter high cascade under it, this is probably the highest waterfall in Slovenia (139 meters).

Stop 7Bovec

Central city of Soča valley in the heart of the Triglav National Park amidst the summits of Julian Alps is a true holiday paradise. You can relax, have an active vacation and learn about soška fronta (Isonzo front). Bovec is being discovered by numerous film makers and Disney’s Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was partially shot there.

Stop 8Trenta and the source of Soča river

Trenta is a glacial valley in Triglav National Park and is the highest part of Soča valley. The source of Soča river after which Emerald River Tour got its name is one of the most beautiful karst sources in our mountains. To see the source of Soča river we will take a 15 minute walk from the Cottage at the source of Soča river. The trail is maintained and partly secured with pitons and steel cables.

Stop 9Vršič – Russian Chapel

Vršič is the highest mountain pass in eastern Julian Alps. The road over the pass was built by Russian prisoners of war during the WWI. Today there is a Russian Chapel built in memory of those prisoners of war and all casualties of WWI. The Chapel is a reminder of the nonsense of world wars.

Stop 10Jasna lake

Just before Vršič pass in Kranjska Gora lies Jasna lake. There are walking paths around the lake, which has very clear, green and very cold water. At the lake shore stands a statue of the legendary Zlatorog (mountain goat), a perfect photo opportunity for your album.

Stop 11Bled

Emerald River Tour finishes in Bled between 7 – 8 p.m.

The Emerald River tour was absolutely amazing! Tour guide Sam was super nice, knowledgable, helpful and a really cool guy in general. We were traveling as a group of 8 and everyone was in shape enough to do the hikes (or were accommodated). Don’t forget to wear good hiking shoes and sport clothes. Triglav national park and Soča valley are just stunning – full of amazing rivers, canyons, waterfalls and high mountains. After the lunch we had a few options for Activities to chose from like Rafting on Soča, Zipline, or Skydiving. To be honest I did not really consider skydiving at the start, but the tour guide talked me in to it saying hoe amazing it is with the view over the mountains. So Skydiving it was and let me say it was absolutely insane! One of the craziest experiences of my life. Skydiving in Bovec is done very professional and safely. We finished the day with more hiking to Kozjak waterfall, a unique car train ride, and glorious sunset over Bohinj lake.

I can only thank to Mamut agency for giving me one of the most epic holidays in my life!

Emerald River Tour is relay breathtaking!

While spending my time in Bled this summer I decided to join the Emerald River Tour and it was one of the most unforgettable days of my month long holidays in Europe. They took us to Triglav National Park that offers insanely beautiful places, with a great combination of Soča river, Julian Alps, lakes, waterfalls and hiking. There’s also some flexibility during the day like optional Rafting or just stay with the guide and visit another waterfall close by if you prefer. Our guide Sam, is such a cool dude and you can clearly see that he loves his job. At the end I would like to thank you for an amazing trip we had!
