How to visit Vintgar gorge?

Close to lake Bled just inside the Triglav National Park lies scenic Vintgar Gorge. Crystal clear Radovna River has carved a deep gorge, which is nowadays the second most popular touristic attraction in Bled. There is a wooden walkway running all the way through the gorge, built in 1893 and its continually rebuilt ever since. The walkway is crisscrossing from one side to the other suspended just a few meters above the icy cold river forming pools, rapids and waterfalls. After approximately 1h of walking you will reach the end of the path at a 16m-high Šum Waterfall. 

Vintgar is located 5km out of Bled and there is different ways to get there.

SHUTTLE BUS

For sure the best and most convenient way to get to the gorge is taking a direct Shuttle bus from the main Bus station in Bled. Shuttle to Vintgar gorge starts from Mamut office in Bled every hour starting at 9.45am. After 15min long drive our driver will drop you off at the entrance where  you will buy entrance tickets to enter the Vintgar gorge. We give you 2h of time in Vintgar gorge which is plenty of time to see everything without being rushed. After 2h shuttle will be waiting for you at the same spot where you got dropped off and take you back to the bus station or it can also drop you off on the Bled castle free of charge and save you a 20min hike. There are only 8 seats available in each shuttle so make sure to book your seat in advance!

WALKING

Bled-Vintgar gorge, Slovenia

If you don’t mind a bit of walking thru the country side you can get to the gorge by foot to. Starting from Bled Head northwest on Prešernova cesta then north on Partizanska cesta to Cesta Vintgar. This will take you to village called Podhom, where signs will show you the way to the gorge entrance. It is a very refreshing 4,5 km long walk, altho the streets you are walking by can get very busy during the summer months. To return back to Bled, you can either retrace your steps or, from you exit the gorge at Šum Waterfall, walk eastward over Hom to the pilgrimage Church of St Catherine (signed ‘Katarina Bled’), which retains some 15th-century fortifications. From there head south through Zasip to get back to Bled. If you will do this circle count on about four hours of walking.

CYCLING

Bled - Vintgar Gorge, Slovenia

Vintgar Gorge with bike is a great way to see the second most famous touristic attraction in Bled while staying active. Be different and make something good for environment, visit Vintgar Gorge with a bike and avoid traffic, parking fees, queue, etc. If you dont have your own bike you can rent them all around Bled and all you need to do is just follow the road signs for Vintgar gorge.

CAR

Bled - vINTGAR GORGE, Slovenia

If you are traveling with car you can drive all the way to the entrance of Vintgar gorge. When you arrive to Bled from the Highway, turn right towards Pokljuka plateau on the roundabout. Follow the main road and in Spodnje Gorje village turn right towards Vintgar gorge. Park on the parking lot in front of a hut where you will buy the entrance tickets.
